The regular operation of high-speed trains between Tashkent and Bukhara starts at the end of August 2016, to the 25thanniversary of Uzbekistan’s Independence. This was announced by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan on April 19th 2016.
“There is a very serious preparation for launch of the most advanced high-speed train” Tashkent-Bukhara” on 25th of August” - said the head of government. The launch of railway is scheduled for August 20th.
Last autumn “Uzbekistan Railways” and Spanish company Patentes Talgo signed a contract for delivery of two new high-speed trains Talgo with increased capacity especially for this route. The new trains will have 10 coaches, including the dining coach. High-speed train will reduce the traveling time between Tashkent and Bukhara by halve– it will be around 4 hours.
In future high-speed railway is planned to be extended to the western part of the country- Urgench as well.
